2002 Beneficiary Luncheon

2001 GAC PROCEEDS TOP $975,000

Eight Cancer Research Beneficiaries Awarded Funds To Speed The Cure

Beneficiary Luncheon Houston, Tx. . . . February 4, 2002 . . . Eight beneficiaries were awarded funding today for their cancer research efforts from the Golfers Against Cancer. The funds represented proceeds from the GAC 2001 tournament and gala, an annual benefit golf tournament which began in 1997. Physicians and administrators representing the cancer research beneficiaries were on hand to receive the checks at a luncheon held at Brennan's Monday along with the GAC board and GAC supporters.

Pat Weston, Co-Chairman of Golfers Against Cancer, was pleased to present checks to the Stehlin Foundation, Susan G. Komen, CapCure, four separate cancer research groups at M.D. Anderson, and Cell & Gene Therapy. "The GAC couldn't be more pleased to help fund these efforts. We've seen progress made toward finding the cure to this dreaded disease. But we have a long way to go. We only hope this year's funding will contribute to future successes in battling the many kinds of cancer our beneficiaries are trying to eradicate," according to Weston. "We're also very proud that all proceeds from the GAC, which is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, go directly to our cancer research beneficiaries," he says.

The GAC holds their gala and golf tournament each year in November, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Plans are already under way to organize next year's event. The gala is held at the Humble Civic Center and the golf tournament, which now fills five courses, is held at the Deerwood Club and all four courses at nearby Kingwood Country Club. The Houston Golf Association is instrumental in helping to both organize and carry out a number of administrative functions for the GAC.
