2004 GAC Dinner Locations Press Release

2004 Dinners for Cancer Research Venues Announced
New York, Atlanta and Houston Dates and Locations Announced

Press Release, July 8, 2004

As part of its 2004 fundraising efforts, the all-volunteer group, Golfers Against Cancer, would like to announce the dates of three separate Dinners for Cancer Research. The third annual Dinner for Cancer Research for New York City will be held on September 27th at the New York Athletic Club. In addition, the inaugural Dinner for Cancer Research has been announced for the Atlanta metropolitan area and will be held on September 28th at the Piedmont Driving Club. As always, there will also be a Dinner for Cancer Research held in Houston on November 20th as part of the overall Golfers Against Cancer events for 2004.

Golfers Against Cancer was established in 1997 as an all-volunteer effort of friends supporting two golf companions - Dave Roberts and Mike Longpré - that were battling serious cancers. This effort has grown to include Dinners for Cancer Research in metropolitan areas - starting with New York City in 2002 and now Atlanta in 2004. The organization's spokesperson, John O'Hurley of J. Peterman/Seinfeld fame, will again host the New York dinner as well as the events in Atlanta and Houston.

The Dinners for Cancer Research held in New York have already raised over $500,000 - before any matching funds - to benefit leading cancer research projects. The primary beneficiary so far has been Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Atlanta host, Hank Schoeler of BMW, is excited about the new venue. "BMW and I have had the opportunity to be a part of this unique non-profit organization since its start in Houston. I am thrilled to be able to help spread our cause to Atlanta and the state of Georgia" stated Schoeler. Schoeler has organized a committee of leading business people in the Atlanta area and begun meeting with potential cancer research beneficiaries.

The Houston Dinner for Cancer Research is part of the Golfers Against Cancer events that will be held November 20 - 22. This year's dinner, which is hosted by Everett Bernal and his wife Randee, is going to have an exciting new twist. "With the support of our presenting sponsor, Continental Airlines, our dinner will be held in an airplane hangar at George Bush Intercontinental Airport with one of the state of the art Continental jets serving as the world's largest centerpiece!" according to Bernal.

2004 looks to be another milestone year for Golfers Against Cancer. Since its founding in 1997, the group has raised over $6 million - including matching funds - that have gone to raise money and save lives with leading cancer research beneficiaries across the nation.
