The Atlantic Golfers For Rosemere In Lancashire, England

Hands Across The Atlantic Golfers For Rosemere In Lancashire, England Raised Money For Cancer And Recognized Their Sister Organization Golfers Against Cancer In Kingwood, Texas.

Golfers for Rosemere fund raiser, Keith McIntosh, discovered the Golfers Against Cancer web site and began an e-mail conversation with Sally Roberts that led to her attending their fourth annual Golfers for Rosemere tournament and ball at the Shaw Hill Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Chorley, England on September 20, 2002.

Fourteen teams teed off and played a Stabelford format with other prizes being awarded for the longest drive and closest to the hole. One hundred-ninety people attended the formal ball in the evening. Guests were able to bid on auction items and win prizes in the raffle. An event not yet tried at a GAC event was the Whiskey Roll, which raised 140 pounds. You would need to have an English pound, a floor to roll it on and a whiskey bottle for a target. Whoever rolled their coin closest to the bottle won it.

Funds raised by this volunteer group are given to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation that helps support the Rosemere Cancer Certre at Royal Preston Hospital. Funds are used to facilitate projects, which are of direct benefit to patients receiving treatment for cancer.

Golfers for Rosemere donated 1000 pounds to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation from their April event and raised another 5000 pounds at the September tournament and ball.

Sally Roberts, Golfers Against Cancer board member, attended the events in September. "It was great to be able to join hands with another group of people devoted to raising funds for cancer research and treatment. We haven't cured cancer yet but do have more survivors."
